Ca n’Oliver, Maó
Born in New York, USA, in 1935, where she graduated in Fine Arts, Dolores Boettcher arrived in Menorca in the early seventies. In 1972, she began teaching on the island and has become a beacon in the teaching of the plastic arts over the last forty years, awakening a multitude of artistic vocations. For years, at Maó’s Ateneu Científic, Literari i Artístic (Athenaeum for Science, Literature and Art), she organised life drawing sessions that attracted many painters of both sexes who are widely recognised today.
An exceptionally talented drawer, her lines are fluid, dynamic and free, while her expressive stroke is by turns sweet or energetic. This expressiveness is enriched often in watercolour, pastel, crayon or collage, allowing her figures – often female nudes – to come to life, becoming tangible and present.
She is equally striking as a watercolourist, imbuing her landscapes and still lifes with a luminous vibration that brings the colours alive. Her oil paintings of objects, plants and figures acquire a plastic, material dimension. A light emanating from the background delineates leaves and flowers with a naturalist’s curiosity and spirit.
